The School of Engineering is seeking qualified undergraduate student applicants for the following positions: Engineering Stories Social Content Creator and School of Engineering Student Ambassador.

The Engineering Stories Social Content Creator will use TikTok, Instagram and YouTube to highlight the awesome undergraduate experience in UBC Engineering and showcase engineering role models (students, faculty, recent alumni and engineers in industry) from underrepresented populations. Engineering Stories is geared towards promoting diversity and inclusivity throughout the School of Engineering and Faculty of Applied Science, but is specifically aimed at prospective Engineering students.

The School of Engineering Student Ambassador will provide enhanced student learning, professional development, mentorship and the opportunity to improve UBC’s outreach and promotion of STEAM fields. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) They will support with the design, curriculum planning, logistics, promotion, and organization of the events and act as a student ambassador to young students and UBC prospective students.

Award Opportunity Deadline: Twice per year the School of Engineering’s Undergraduate Awards Committee adjudicates awards to recognize the outstanding students and provide financial support. The May awards cycle is on now featuring significant cash prize awards in international development, leadership, and community impact and innovation.

All graduating students are encouraged to review this list of awards and nominate themselves. There are a couple of awards for non-graduating students as well. Some are automatic based on academic performance or other criteria listed but many of these awards require you to provide additional information in order to be considered.

Find out how to apply for the post-graduation work permit (PGWP) and to remain in Canada as a worker. A PGWP allows you to remain in Canada and work full-time after you complete a certificate, diploma or degree that is at least eight months in length. If you are unsure if you will stay or return to Canada after studies, consider applying for the PGWP in case as you will lose the opportunity to apply after 180 days. Reconciliation + Design Dialogue Series Feb 10th @ 4:30 PM PST.

Guest speaker Nalaine Morin has a metallurgical engineering degree from UBC and a certificate in mechanical engineering design from BCIT. Her technical background combined with being of Tahltan descent has led her to develop new ways to synthesize Indigenous ways of knowing with western science. Many of her innovative processes have been adopted for use at a provincial level. Nalaine Morin provides services in third party review, regulatory support, negotiations, community consultation and environmental resource management.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY – The UBC nomination deadline for the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation Awards is December 7, 2021. This deadline allows time to secure a letter of support from School of Engineering leadership.

The awards include an Undergraduate Ambassador Award category with awards ranging from $5k-10k, and the Claudette Mackay-Lassonde Graduate Award ($15k). Applicants must self-identify as female, possess Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency Status, be enrolled full-time in an accredited Engineering Program (for the undergraduate awards, the applicant cannot be in their final year of study as of Sept. 2021).

Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Policy Analyst Recruitment and Development Program (PARDP) is NRCan’s signature accelerated development program for Master’s, Law (Juris Doctorate), and Ph.D. graduates. Research opportunities in health for undergraduate students at UBC Okanagan. Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Projects in Health (MURPH) is an undergraduate research program at UBC Okanagan, aiming to offer a unique cross-disciplinary platform for undergraduate students to engage in academic research, while also receiving professional training through custom-designed workshops.

All undergraduate students (from any faculty/school) at UBC Okanagan may apply for MURPH research positions available during the academic year of 2021-2022. A part-time commitment is expected from those admitted to the program.
Note: The students who have participated in the program in the past two years are not eligible to apply this year.
