Mohammad Reza Khodoomi is a PhD student in the School of Engineering at UBC Okanagan.
How can communities plan for a more sustainable energy future when resources are limited and conditions keep changing? For UBC Okanagan mechanical engineering PhD student Mohammad Reza Khodoomi, the answer lies in using operations research to turn complex challenges into practical decisions.
Working with Drs. Babak Tosarkani and Eric Li, Khodoomi studies sustainable supply chains, renewable energy and resilient energy systems. His research uses mathematical modelling and data to help decision-makers weigh options and understand trade-offs.
What inspires me most is the opportunity to turn complex real-world challenges into practical decisions. Problems related to climate change, energy security, infrastructure disruptions, and sustainable development rarely have one simple solution. I find it exciting that operations research allows us to compare alternatives, understand trade-offs, and identify solutions that might not otherwise be obvious.
