This week in our series highlighting UBC Okanagan School of Engineering Student Ambassadors, we visit with Ram Dershan.
Ram is a second year student specializing in mechanical engineering.
What is your role within the School of Engineering Student Ambassador Program?
I have taken the lead on one of the school’s initiatives called Global Engineering. My role is to conduct events for students from across the globe to create a sense of community with a global perspective.
What extra-curricular activities are you involved with?
I am involved with the Engineering Society at UBC as the International Representative and also with Engineers Without Borders’ UBCO Chapter as the Evolving Engineering Representative.
What has been your favourite course so far? And why?
My favourite course would be APSC 171, because it was one of the first courses in engineering that required imagination and creativity and it was the course with the biggest project.
If you had a theme song, what would it be?

Favourite misconception about engineers and engineering?
Engineers can fix anything.
Looking ahead 5 or 10 years, where do you see yourself?
Doing Masters or Traveling Around
Favourite Season in the Okanagan? And why?
Autumn because of the different colours you see around.
