Year One Students
Welcome to the Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) program! Before reviewing this page, which covers some important information for new-to-UBC first year students, please review the overview on the Registration page, which has some excellent general information about registration.
First Year Planning Guide
We recommend all first year students review the First Year Planning Guide for details about the required first year courses. You can see which courses you need, which term they are offered, and start building your Saved Schedule in Workday.
Five Year Degree Plan
The School of Engineering recommends students consider a reduced course load while transitioning to university course work. A five-year degree plan has been developed to reduce engineering students’ course load to five courses per term. Students interested in the five-year degree plan should register in all first-year courses with the exception of APSC 176 and APSC 171 (see an Academic Advisor for other course options).
Please note: Students interested in applying to transfer to the Vancouver campus after their first year complete must all 36 credits (all 12 first year courses) by May 1st in order to be eligible and should NOT choose the Five Year Degree Plan. Please refer to the Program Selection/Year 2 placement or Campus Transfer webpage for more details.
Refer to the engineering advising sheets to review the recommended five-year degree plans for each program.
