Undergraduate Capstone

The Capstone Design Course stands as a cornerstone of our School’s commitment to real-world experience, innovation and community collaboration. Each year, this fourth-year program brings together final-year engineering students, faculty and external partners to co-create solutions to meaningful, unsolved problems.

Spanning September to April, Capstone empowers students to integrate and apply their cumulative engineering education, design thinking, technical knowledge and communication skills, into a rigorous, team-based project with authentic relevance.

For industry and community organizations, Capstone is more than a student project: it is a strategic partnership. It provides early access to emerging talent, fresh perspectives on pressing challenges, and a platform to shape the next generation of engineers. By engaging with Capstone, partners become part of a living lab for innovation and a vibrant ecosystem that bridges academia and the world beyond.

Project submissions process

Projects can be submitted by industry, faculty or students until August 5, 2025.

What we are looking for

  • Real problems: Problems that you care about and want to see solved. The more you care about it, the more our students are likely to be motivated to try and solve.
  • Open-ended: To provide our students a meaningful engineering design experience, they must be able to exercise a significant amount of choice and creativity, within the constraints of your industry.
  • Non-critical path: As a student project, the final outputs may fall short of a fully finished and working solution for your problem. Ideal problems should be those you are open to explore new and creative options, even if not complete.
  • Non-critical confidentiality: As a course, students must be able to report on their work to receive grades, as well as participate in the final capstone showcase and competition. If your project requires us to maintain confidentiality, it must offer sufficient accommodation to report on their work to their course instructors and participate in the public showcase at the end of the course.

Please note: You will be notified of your submission status in late-August.

Make sure to preview the survey before making your online submission.
