Find out how transfer options can set you on your engineering path.

There are 3 different pathways for a student to transfer to the Bachelor of Applied Science (Engineering) at UBC’s Okanagan campus.

  • Post-Secondary Transfer
  • Engineering Transfer Program
  • Bridge Program Transfer

Post-Secondary Transfer

The UBC School of Engineering accepts students transferring from another UBC Faculty and other post-secondary institutions. In either case, students must apply for admission to the School of Engineering through UBC’s Admissions Office.

Post-secondary transfer students are evaluated based on their most recent 30 credits of university-transferable courses, though UBC may review your entire academic record, including any failed and repeated courses. Students with less than 24 transferable credits from a post-secondary institution will be evaluated against both secondary and post-secondary admission criteria. UBC University or college transfer student admissions details can found here.

Bachelor of Applied Science applicants must also have taken courses in chemistry, mathematics, and physics which transfer to the first year engineering program and achieve an average of at least 70% in each of these core subject areas. Courses to be considered in this average of mathematics, chemistry, and physics courses are not limited to the last 30 credits only. Where two courses, or one repeated course, have been taken which transfer to one of the courses of the first-year engineering program, only the grade of the latest course will be used in calculating the average. In addition, an overall average of at least 65%, including any failed courses, is required. Please see the Academic Calendar for all policies on post-secondary transfer.

A student will be admitted into second-year engineering if that student had successfully completed or has transfer credits for at least 27 credits of our first-year program. Students not meeting this criterion would be admitted into the first-year program.

Engineering Transfer Program

Complete an approved engineering transfer certificate or diploma from one of the BC colleges or universities listed below. Students following this route of admission will need to complete their chosen Engineering Transfer Program (ENGT) or Common First-Year Engineering Curriculum (CFYEC) within one academic year (September – April) and with a GPA of at least 2.8 to be eligible for guaranteed placement in second-year engineering at UBC Okanagan.

Admission requirements need to be completed by the end of April of the application year. Courses taken in the summer, prior to a September start date, will not be considered in your application or year level assessment, but can be considered for transfer credit.

Students who are registered in an Engineering Transfer Program or Common First-Year Engineering Curriculum but who do not complete their program in one academic year (September to April) or do not meet the GPA requirements, are not eligible for the admission guarantee but will still be evaluated as a post-secondary transfer applicant.

Please see the Academic Calendar for additional engineering transfer program details.
