Transfer Students Overview

Welcome to the Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) program! Before reviewing this page, which covers some important information for new-to-UBC students transferring in from another institution, please review the overview on the Registration page, which has some excellent general information about registration.

Registration for transfer students can vary depending on which transfer program or post-secondary institution you transferred in from and your year level. Once admitted to UBC, your transfer credits are assessed in 2 parts:

  1. Admissions assigns either specific or general course credits.  SPECIFIC credit equals an exact course at UBC (i.e. APSC 172) and GENERAL credit is when the course does not perfectly overlap but may still be useable for a specific APSC course or elective (i.e. APSC 1st). Please see the UBC website for full details: https://students.ok.ubc.ca/academic-success/degree-planning/transfer-credits/
  2. For any courses you received GENERAL credit, you can then apply for specific course credit for your BASc, through the Transfer Credit Application Form.
To check your transfer credits, log into your SSC and go to grades/records>transfer credits and select UBC Okanagan from the drop-down menu. Note: you will have to provide FULL course syllabi (not online course descriptions) and unofficial transcripts.

    1. Term One Transfer Credit Applications deadline is August 31.
    2. Term Two Transfer Credit Applications deadline is November 30.

Prior study will be articulated by our faculty. If enough credits are assigned, your class standing (year level) will be adjusted.

Once students are aware which courses they will receive credit for, students can plan their remaining courses using the Advising Sheets. Students with transfer credit may want to Talk to an Advisor prior to course registration so they are aware of their course planning options.

It is important to note that the UBC course scheduling system does not always recognize your transferred courses. When registering in courses that use these transferred courses as prerequisites, you may require Engineering Academic Service’s help to register.

This information is for students entering first-year engineering from a post-secondary institution and have received less than 27 transfer credits applicable towards the UBC first-year engineering program.
By transferring into the 1st year of our program you will have received credit for some 1st year courses and some courses still remain to be taken. Since you will be taking a hybrid of 1st and likely 2nd year courses, you may want to consult with the Advising Sheets and/or Talk to an Advisor when building your Saved Schedules. When registering in courses that use these transferred courses as prerequisites, you may require Engineering Academic Service’s help to register.

This information is for students entering 2nd year Engineering from a post-secondary institution and have received more than 27 transfer credits applicable towards your Bachelor of Applied Science Degree.
By transferring into the 2nd year of our program you will have received credit for most or all of first year and perhaps even a few second year courses. You should ensure that you have added your Program of Study. There are instructions to self-add in Program Selection.

Since you may be taking a hybrid of 1st and likely 2nd year courses, you may want to consult with the Advising Sheets and/or Talk to an Advisor when building your Saved Schedules. When registering in courses that use these transferred courses as prerequisites, you may require Engineering Academic Service’s help to register.

Camosun College Bridge: Bridge student’s program requirements will differ slightly and students will be granted exemptions for courses completed in diploma and Bridge program study. There are strict limits on whether any further transfer credits can be provided. When registering, Camosun Bridge students should follow their specific advising sheet (provided when you were about to switch campuses). When registering in courses that use these exempted courses as prerequisites, you will require Engineering Academic Service’s help to register.

Transferring from another UBC Campus or Facility

If you are transferring from another UBC Campus or faculty, we highly recommend contacting Engineering Academic Services (soe.academicservices@ubc.ca) for guidance on how to find out which transfer credits you are eligible for. Once you are aware of which Bachelor of Applied Science Okanagan courses you have credit for, you can consult the Advising Sheet and build your Saved Schedules. When registering in courses that use these transferred courses as prerequisites, you may require Engineering Academic Service’s help to register.
