Dr. Ayşe Alemdar Thomson receives UBC Okanagan Principal’s Staff Award

September 9, 2026

Dr. Ayse Alemdar Thomson

Ayşe Alemdar Thomson recognized for her leadership contributions at UBC Okanagan.

UBC Okanagan School of Engineering congratulates Dr. Ayşe Alemdar Thomson, Manager, Research and Strategic Initiatives, on receiving the Principal’s Staff Award for Emerging Leadership.

The Principal’s Staff Awards celebrate outstanding contributions that go beyond regular responsibilities and make a meaningful impact on the university community. The Emerging Leadership award recognizes individuals who demonstrate leadership through their actions, initiative and voice, positively influencing others and advancing shared goals.

Through her skill, dedication and collaborative approach, Ayşe is helping advance research partnerships and strategic initiatives across the School of Engineering. She works closely with researchers, colleagues and partners to strengthen connections, develop opportunities and move complex projects forward alongside Colin Wilson, Director of Research and Industry Partnerships.

“Simply put, Ayse is invaluable to the business development efforts here at the School,” said Colin Wilson. “She is tenacious, intelligent, persistent, and patient all at the same time. What a privilege to have her on the team.”

“Ayşe brings tremendous care, initiative and purpose to her work,” says School of Engineering Director Dr. Will Hughes. “Her ability to bring people and ideas together is helping us build stronger research partnerships and increase the impact of engineering research at UBC Okanagan. This recognition is richly deserved, and we are very proud to have Ayşe as part of our School community.”

The award reflects Ayşe’s commitment to collaboration and her growing leadership within the School and across UBC Okanagan.

“Receiving the Principal’s Staff Award for Emerging Leadership truly means a lot to me. This recognition reflects the strength of our School’s collaborative and cohesive culture, and I’m appreciative of the support and contributions of my colleagues across UBC,” said Dr. Thomson.

Congratulations, Ayşe, and thank you for everything you do to support our researchers, partners and community!
