Undergraduate PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Foundational First Year

All incoming Bachelor of Applied Science (Engineering) students complete a foundational common first year where they take a variety of courses in areas such as programming, communication, math, physics, chemistry and engineering design. The first-year courses are taught by world class engineering faculty providing a comprehensive introduction to the core principles of engineering and design.

Engineering design is at the heart of the first-year engineering experience through the Sustainable Engineering Design and Engineering Drawing and CAD/CAM courses. Right from first term, our engineering students are designing solutions to real world problems and challenges.

Guaranteed Program Placement

Engineering students are guaranteed their first-choice engineering program at the UBC Okanagan campus. At the end of their first year of study, students will declare their program in one of five disciplines: civil, computer, electrical, manufacturing and mechanical.

Throughout their first year, engineering students have many opportunities to learn about each of the five programs in order to decide which program is the right fit for them.
