Biography
Dr. Hadi Mohammadi received his BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering (solid mechanics) and Mathematics with honors and his MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering (Biomechanics) from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. He received his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering specializing in cardiovascular engineering and biomaterials from Western University, London, ON, Canada. Upon graduation, he received two Postdoctoral fellowships, tenured at (1) Human Performance Lab in the Faculty of Kinesiology at University of Calgary, AB, Canada, where he was mainly focused on connective tissues mechanobiology and, (2) Wellman Center for Photomedicine in the Department of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School, MA, United States, where he was working on mechanics of atherosclerotic plaque and its stability.
Dr. Mohammadi’s main area of research is focused on the study, design, development, and fabrication of heart valve prostheses. The Heart Valve Performance Laboratory (HVPL) at UBC’s Okanagan Campus which he established in 2013, is the only laboratory in Canada pioneering in the design and development of a new generation of prosthetic heart valves. The HVPL works closely with cardiologists and surgeons at the Faculty of Medicine, UBC, Vancouver, and the Kelowna General Hospital, Cardiothoracic Surgery Program.
Dr. Mohammadi is an industry innovator having created the technology to produce lifelike synthetic platforms that can be used for the simulation of almost all cardiovascular reconstructive surgeries. He’s been heavily involved in the design and development of medical devices and technology for the past 10 years. He is a member of the association of professional engineers in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia.
His motto for life is easy:
Learn mathematics and coding for no reason, be honest, stay with your problems longer, be intuitive, and always learn the rules and play better.
