Biography

I received my Ph.D. from the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University. My teaching and research focus on academic literacy, university writing pedagogy, engineering and professional communication, and first-year writing and communication for multilingual students. I teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in academic literacy, argumentation, rhetoric and composition, professional and technical communication, and intercultural communication. Prior to joining the School of Engineering, I taught in the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, Department of English and Cultural Studies at UBCO (from 2020 – 2022) and in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University (from 2018-2019).

Research Interests & Projects

One of my areas of research is inclusive writing instruction. I’m a team-member on a SSHRC-funded project in collaboration with colleagues from UBCO’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies and Simon Fraser University. The project addresses current issues in teaching first-year writing to multilingual students in Canada. As part of that work, we developed the PRISM Framework (Plurality, Racio-linguistics, Indigenous Worldviews, and Social Justice for Multilingual Learners), which offers both a theoretical lens and a practical resource tool kit for writing and communication instructors and researchers.
