Campus transfer

Cross-campus registration

Cross campus registration is intended for UBC Okanagan undergraduate students interested in taking some courses at the Vancouver campus.

Cross campus registration is not for students who are looking to switch or transfer to a Vancouver degree program. Students wishing to transfer campuses completely should apply for a Change of Campus or for a 2nd year placement at that campus (see below)

Current undergraduate students interested in taking courses at another university and counting them towards their degree requirements should consult the Academic Calendar or the section on our website on Letters of Permission. You may also consider looking at summer and off-campus study options.

Graduate students looking to take courses on the Vancouver campus should visit the College of Graduate Studies for more information and forms.

Learn more on the Cross campus registration page.

Transfer to Engineering at the Vancouver Campus

Current engineering students at UBC’s Okanagan campus who are interested in transferring to engineering at UBC’s Vancouver campus should read all contents of this page and then refer to the corresponding website for next steps.

There are 2 different transfer pathways from Engineering at UBC’s Okanagan campus to UBC’s Vancouver campus:

1. Students currently in 1st Year Engineering at UBC’s Okanagan campus

Students currently in 1st Year Engineering at UBC’s Okanagan campus may be eligible for transfer to the UBC Vancouver Engineering program through the 2nd year Placement Process. Transfer to UBC Vancouver Engineering and placement into a Primary Program of Study on that campus is highly competitive and there are a limited number of seats (max. 15 per year) available for students to transfer from BASC-O to BASC-V. There are no guarantees of successful transfer.

To be considered, students must meet the following criteria:

  • must complete all 36 credits of the first year curriculum (all 12 first year courses) or equivalents by the end of April of the application year
  • must have not already declared a Primary Program of Study (ie: Mechanical Engineering)
  • apply via the 2nd Year Placement process before the stated deadline

Visit the UBCV Engineering Academic Services website for more information on eligibility and application deadlines. The application typically opens in mid-March and closes in mid-May though applicants are encouraged to review the link below for accurate deadline information.

Note that there is an additional deadline/application for the Biomedical option in Electrical Engineering, all options in Mechanical Engineering and for the Environmental Engineering option (joint program with UNBC).

2. Students currently in 2nd Year Engineering at the Okanagan campus

Students currently in 2nd Year Engineering at UBC’s Okanagan campus and interested in transferring to engineering at UBC’s Vancouver campus, can submit an application through the Change Your Program or Campus Application.

Note:

  • Change of Program/ Campus applications to UBC Vancouver Engineering is highly competitive
  • The deadline to submit this application usually coincides with the Admissions deadline of January 15th: https://ssc.adm.ubc.ca/sscportal/apply.xhtml
  • There is no guarantee any of your 2nd year engineering courses will be eligible to count towards a Vancouver campus degree
  • There may be a limited number of seats available for students to transfer from BASC-O to BASC-V
  • Specializations on the Vancouver are also highly competitive with no guaranteed entry.

Transfer to a different UBC program

Students who would like to transfer to another program (outside of the engineering program on either campus) will also complete the Change Your Program or Campus Application. The deadline to submit this application usually coincides with the Admissions deadline in January.
