Registration Overview
Students have the freedom to choose which courses and which sections (lectures, labs and tutorials) they enroll in and must register for each course individually.
Your Workday Student account will be updated roughly 1 week before the start of registration to notify you of the date and time your registration will open (your registration appointment).
Registration appointments are assigned by year level and by academic average but once open, registration is first come, first served. As a result, it is important for you to plan ahead and have multiple Saved Schedules ready for each term, well before your registration date/ time opens.
Please refer to course planning and the advising sheets for more details about your degree planning and courses.

Registration TIps
- Plan ahead by building multiple Saved Schedules for each Term.
- Check the prerequisites and corequisites listed on the course descriptions. You are responsible for ensuring that you meet the course requirements. Prerequisites and corequisites for courses can be found on the Okanagan Academic Calendar.
- Set a reminder in your calendar for your registration date and time.
- Check you have paid all required deposits. If you have any finance related questions, please contact Student Services.
- Register as soon as your registration date/ time opens.
- Register for both semesters: September AND January terms or May AND July terms (if summer registration).
- If you meet the prerequisite but are unable to register, it could be a conflict or an Unrecognized Prerequisite (see below)
- If you do not meet the prerequisite but want to register in a particular course, consider whether you might be eligible for any Registration Waivers (see below).
Unrecognized Prerequisite:
If you are trying to register for a course and the system says you are missing the prerequisite requirement BUT you do meet the prerequisite requirement with transfer credit or an equivalent course contact Engineering Academic Services at soe.academicservices@ubc.ca with your student number, full name, and list of courses you hope to get in to and our team can override the permission to allow you to register yourself. These requests can be submitted before registration opens – please allow for a few business days for the task.
Class Standing
Class standing is reviewed constantly and could change, so if you don’t have the Class Standing prerequisite to take a course, wait until you’ve completed a few more courses and you should have no trouble registering.
Registration Waivers
- Waiver Forms are available in the Forms Database. These forms will not be reviewed until at least 2 weeks after the last registration date opens. Students can expect to receive a response no sooner than 1 month after the last registration date opens.
