Transfer Credits

How to apply for AP/IB/A-Level credits

Review the First Year Credit page to see what UBC credits you may receive. If you have received UBC credits for AP/IB/A-Level credits please submit a Transfer Credit Application form for these credits to be reviewed by the School of Engineering. Please refer to the form for the submission deadline information.
Please do not drop courses until you have received confirmation from the School of Engineering that you have received transfer credit. You have until the course add/drop deadline to drop courses without a Withdrawal (‘W’) standing on your academic record. Note that when registering in courses that use these transferred courses as prerequisites, you may require Engineering Academic Service’s help to register.

See Unrecognized Prerequisite

Note:

  • It is recommended that you complete the Chemistry (APSC 182 & 183), Math (APSC 172 & 173) and Physics (APSC 178) courses in first-year engineering even if you have received UBC credits from AP, IB or A-Levels for these courses. The first-year engineering program is designed to build a strong foundation for upper-level courses.
  • If you drop a course after having received confirmation from the School of Engineering for the credits from AP, IB or A-Levels, you do not need to do anything further. The credits will apply automatically, where applicable, towards the degree requirements and you will see this reflected in your Academic Progress Report. A % grade is not assigned to these credits. The credits will apply to the credit requirements to determine your promotion to second year standing.

What AP/IB credits do we accept?

The AP/IB credits that we accept and their UBC Okanagan School of Engineering equivalents are:

  • CALC I = APSC 172
  • CALC II = APSC 173
  • ENGL = APSC 176
  • CHEM = APSC 183
  • Humanities credit equivalencies can be found here.

Letter of Permission

Current Bachelor of Applied Science (Okanagan) students who want to take a course at another institution can do so by requesting and receiving a Letter of Permission – a document that dictates that you can take a specific course, at a specific institution, in a specific semester and have the course credit be transferrable to UBC and applicable towards your BASC-O degree.

There are a number of restrictions on which UBC courses are eligible for a Letter of Permission as well as which partner institution courses we will accept as equivalent. There is also a limit on the total number of courses that can be taken by LOP. The full policy, including a link to the request form, is here.
