UBC Okanagan is situated on traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation. The land has always been a place of learning for the Syilx peoples, who for millennia have passed on their culture, history, and traditions from one generation to the next.

equity, diversity, inclusion and indigeneity (EDI+I)

Establishing a culture and environment that values and champions equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity takes a comprehensive approach. In the School of Engineering, we’re focusing on five key pillars:

  • 2SLGBTQIA+
  • Indigenous Reconciliation
  • Women in Engineering
  • Anti-Racism and Allyship
  • People with Disabilities

14 not forgotten

The 14 Not Forgotten Memorial ceremony at the UBC Okanagan campus recognizes the young women whose lives were taken during the tragic 1989 École Polytechnique massacre in Montreal. Each year, the school gathers to remember and commit to action to end violence against women. A permanent memorial entitled “For Future Matriarchs” was installed in 2022 to serve as a visible symbol of the School of Engineering and UBC’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
