School of Engineering New Student Ambassador Program Making a Difference
In a new program introduced this year, 11 School of Engineering students have been selected as Student Ambassadors to assist in the design and delivery of academic and social programs for School of Engineering students. The student ambassadors are all under-graduates in a variety of programs and years.
“I’ve been enjoying my studies and life at the School of Engineering,” says fourth-year Civil Engineering student Eric (Zhenyuan) Ma, “personally and professionally developed a lot with the help from faculty, staff and colleagues so I wanted to give back.”
The ambassadors have committed to represent UBC and the School of Engineering at outreach and community events while coordinating activities and workshops. Equally as important, the student ambassadors are providing mentorship to their peers both in person and through social media channels.
“We’ve heard from students that they wanted more resources and opportunities to interact with the School of Engineering, and this program is intended to address that” says Reneé Leboe, Engineering Advisor.
The eleven students are Andrew Pipke, Eric Ma, Evangeline Saclamacis, Holly Denby, Hannah Gomes, Ishrak Iltut, Katherine Luckasavitch, Prashanka Mawalagedara, Ram Dershan, Shreya Saxena and Venedict Tamondong.
