Qi Zhang, a Ph.D. student in Dr. Shahria Alam’s Research Group, was recently awarded a Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (CPCI) Scholarship.
The $15,000 Graduate / Post-Graduate Student scholarship is awarded annually to only one student of Civil Engineering in Canada who is pursuing precast/prestressed concrete research projects or studies. Once awarded, there is the potential to extend the award for an additional year.
When speaking of the recognition, Zhang says “I feel extremely honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award and excited to pursue further success.”
Zhang’s research is focused on performance-based bridge design and unbonded post-tensioned concrete piers. His most recent published papers were entitled: ‘Seismic performance comparison between force-based and performance-based design as per Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code’ in Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, NRC and ‘Evaluating the Seismic Behavior of Segmental Unbounded Posttensioned Concrete Bridge Piers Using Factorial Analysis’ in Journal of Bridge Engineering, ASCE.
