GoENG Girl participants collaborate on a hands-on project with assistance by graduate students and teachers.
The School of Engineering hosted 100 Grade 7-9 girls on Friday, October 14th, 2016 as part of the Canada-wide GoENG Girl event.
Students attended from over 10 schools throughout School District 23, and there was such an overwhelmingly positive response that a second GoENG Girl event is being organized for February (stay tuned for further details in the coming months).
After the morning welcome by School of Engineering Director Dr. Mina Hoorfar, Dr. Cigdem Eskicioglu, and students, participants spent two hours learning about School of Engineering research projects and student clubs from faculty and students.
After lunch, students collaborated with each other to make plastic hands that could pick up objects, while learning about the various components of our hands.
The event was finished by the UBCO Concrete Toboggan Club, who showed students what it was like to be a member of the team.
25 student volunteers worked together to make this event possible – a HUGE thank you to each and every one!
We look forward to welcoming the next group of girls in February!
