A team of fourth-year School of Engineering students earned high marks at the annual Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) conference.

Selected by the School of Engineering, Blake Cloutier and Andre Prohoroff represented their Capstone team (also including Kyle Squire and Matthew Yip) and placed second overall out of 14 participating teams.

The CSCE invites one Capstone team from each civil engineering program across Canada to present their poster. Clouiter and Prohoroff won for their presentation of the Ross Street Underpass in Salmon Arm, BC, a design project put forward by R.F. Binnie & Associates Ltd.

“This is quite the achievement considering that this is only the second year that the School of Engineering has sent a team to the CSCE conference,” says Dr. Ahmad Rteil, faculty supervisor for Cloutier and team, and faculty advisor for UBC Okanagan’s CSCE Student Chapter. “These young engineers are fantastic presenters, and the results of this competition prove that.”

Each team is required to present their poster for two minutes, and then answer questions for an additional 13 minutes.

“It was an excellent opportunity for us,” says Cloutier. “The experience that we gained is invaluable.”

The winning poster will be displayed on Level 0 of the EME Building.
